These paintings mature slowly.
Layers of paint, plaster, tempera, wine are added, scraped, poured, wiped, and painted over all over again.
The concept of four layers of terroir, grape, wine and consumption carries through each piece.
Some layers disappear completely under each other, but their impact is still felt.
Colours and textures build the notes in the wine, and the depth that lives in each glass.
The process is physical and often unpredictable. I respond to what is happening on the canvas rather than following a fixed plan, allowing the painting to develop through accumulation, removal and chance.
